“But this year, we’re connecting like Montana and Rice.” Yes, this was a quote from Dallas Cowboys wide-receiver Roy Williams. And yes, it was an idiotic statement that could not have come from the heart. After putting up big numbers in his Detroit Lions career, Williams has not lived up to the hype in his Cowboys career. After posting nine touchdowns in his last two seasons combined, Roy Williams has been far from Jerry Rice. And while we are at it, Joe Montana would have the right to vomit if Tony Romo was supposed to connect to anyone as if he was Montana.

Tony Romo is still deservedly known as a quarterback that would be a great coup for fantasy football. He finally got over the hump of winning a playoff game; it only took him a few tries. I bet he would still like to one day make an NFC Championship. But enough with the Romo bashing, as this statement did not come out of his mouth. I hope Roy Williams enjoys looking over at Miles Austin, who clearly took his #1 spot that he never really held. And the fact that the Cowboys selected Dez Bryant in round one of the draft should tell Williams that the Cowboys don’t see him as Jerry Rice. Unless they see him as an equivalent to Jerry Rice; when Rice played for the Seahawks. Do you remember how he did on the Seahawks? Neither do I.

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo can still escape a collapsing pocket with greater ease than the seemingly always swirling winds of controversy at Valley Ranch. Romo and the rolling Cowboys head into Sunday night’s showdown at Philadelphia, not so much hyping their chances of taking over divisional supremacy, but stamping out another locker-room brush fire.

On Wednesday, struggling receiver Roy Williams continued his weekly discourse into his and Romo’s bizarre disconnect. Speaking openly and not accusatorily, Williams said that Romo throws more accurately to his other receivers, one reason why Williams has just 14 catches in six games.

On Thursday, Romo, instead of fielding questions about his three-game streak with eight touchdowns and no interceptions, his excellent judgment of late or the team’s evolving offensive diversity, defended Williams as a hard worker and someone who cares, and then got defensive, attempting to quash any notion of a rift.
