Lance Berkman’s time on the disabled list will likely extend beyond Friday’s 15-day mark.
Berkman has been sidelined with a strained calf muscle.
“This morning it was pretty sore,” Berkman said before Tuesday night’s game against San Francisco. “I did more [Monday] than I had been doing. I hadn’t run on it at all since I hurt it.”
Berkman did more jogging than any real running.

The Astros stormed out of the gates following the All-Star break, winning six of eight games and putting themselves within one game of the lead in the National League Central. Like they had done so many years before, they were making another second-half surge.

Procedure ‘precautionary’ according to Astros GM
Astros first baseman Lance Berkman will undergo an MRI on Tuesday to gauge the extent of the mild left calf strain that has slowed him in recent days. Berkman, who returned to the starting lineup in Monday’s 3-2 win over the Cardinals for the first time since straining his calf Thursday in Los Angeles, went 1-for-2 with a double, on which he gingerly rounded the bases. He stayed in the game and played all nine innings.

Astros first baseman exits game vs. Dodgers in eighth
Astros first baseman Lance Berkman left Thursday’s 3-0 win over the Dodgers in the eighth inning with a mild left calf strain. He is listed as day-to-day. Berkman, who went 0-for-3 with a walk, was removed from the game after going hard down the line while trying to beat out a ground ball to first base in the top of the eighth. Berkman was hitting .342 in July prior to going hitless against the Dodgers.
