Bellator, latin for ‘warrior’, is the name of the nationally-based MMA promotion making a visit to the Dallas-Fort Worth area on the evening of May 20. They differ from the UFC and Strikeforce in that they have implemented a tournament-style system for their fight cards that fans can follow for an entire “season.”
Currently in season two, the organization is focusing on four weight divisions — Featherweight, Lightweight, Welterweight, and Middleweight. The season which started in April, showcases events each week in different cities as fighters progress through the tournament with the finals occurring at the end of June.
Bellator 19 will take place in Grand Prairie and serve as the semi-finals for the welterweight division.
Former Olympian Ben Askren will face Ryan Thomas. And Dan Hornbuckle, tagged as the favorite by many, takes on a member of the U.S. Army in Steve Carl.

“But this year, we’re connecting like Montana and Rice.” Yes, this was a quote from Dallas Cowboys wide-receiver Roy Williams. And yes, it was an idiotic statement that could not have come from the heart. After putting up big numbers in his Detroit Lions career, Williams has not lived up to the hype in his Cowboys career. After posting nine touchdowns in his last two seasons combined, Roy Williams has been far from Jerry Rice. And while we are at it, Joe Montana would have the right to vomit if Tony Romo was supposed to connect to anyone as if he was Montana.
Tony Romo is still deservedly known as a quarterback that would be a great coup for fantasy football. He finally got over the hump of winning a playoff game; it only took him a few tries. I bet he would still like to one day make an NFC Championship. But enough with the Romo bashing, as this statement did not come out of his mouth. I hope Roy Williams enjoys looking over at Miles Austin, who clearly took his #1 spot that he never really held. And the fact that the Cowboys selected Dez Bryant in round one of the draft should tell Williams that the Cowboys don’t see him as Jerry Rice. Unless they see him as an equivalent to Jerry Rice; when Rice played for the Seahawks. Do you remember how he did on the Seahawks? Neither do I.

Houston Texans linebacker Brian Cushing said Thursday he never used any banned substances even though he tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug.
Cushing was suspended for four games without pay last week for violating the NFL’s drug policy. His appeal was denied.
Cushing confirmed he tested positive for HCG, a fertility drug that is on the league’s banned substance list.
“The question of how it got into my body is still unclear,” he said. “It’s something that I’m very personally concerned about, just the fact that how it’s there and what’s going to determine it from happening again, and that’s something we’re going to have to medically investigate.”
He said that after failing the test, he was told HCG can get in your body from injecting it or because of tumors. He said this information led him to believe he had tumors. He did not say what kind of tumors.
“I personally know I’m not injecting myself with anything,” he said. “I played the whole season thinking this could not only be my last season, but my last year.”
