UT football notes: Longhorns filling award lists

In what has become a weekly ritual for the Texas Longhorns, another group of players and coaches has been named semifinalists for prestigious national awards.
The latest honor is the Maxwell Award, which goes to the college player of the year and usually serves as an indicator of who will win the Heisman Trophy. UT quarterback Colt McCoy and wide receiver Jordan Shipley were named Maxwell semifinalists this week.
In addition, UT coach Mack Brown is a semifinalists for the George Munger Award honoring the national coach of the year.
On Tuesday, safety Earl Thomas was named a semifinalist for the Thorpe Award, which honors the game’s best defensive back.
